Curbing Pesticide Pollution

ShareAction envisions an investment system which is a force for good. It works to define and drive the adoption of the highest standards for responsible investment worldwide. In doing so, it aims to harness the power of the financial system to tackle the biggest environmental and social challenges we face.

As part of this mission, ShareAction works to hold pesticide companies accountable for their impact on global biodiversity loss. It does so by facilitating collaborative corporate engagements for institutional investors, who own shares in these companies, to drive forward corporate transition toward lower-impact business models that don’t rely on hazardous chemicals.

Only 6 companies comprise 80% of the global pesticides market, so transition within these businesses could help farmers access lower-impact products to grow food while the longer-term transition toward more resilient, agroecological food systems takes place. ShareAction’s pesticides corporate engagement campaign aims to both encourage these key companies to transition as well as hold the investment community accountable for leveraging their capital for good.
