Edinburgh Shoreline is a passionate group of individuals who use innovative approaches to educate, inspire & involve the local community in celebrating and caring for the natural environment of the shoreline and waters surrounding the Firth of Forth. Through a flexible project grant, directed towards on-the-ground conservation delivery, Elgol Fund for Nature are enabling Edinburgh Shoreline to expand efforts to restore native species and habitats both above & below the water along the shoreline of the Firth of Forth. Based on the results of baseline research into the rapidly declining native blue mussels, work will be carried out to explore the causes of this decline and the possibilities for restoration, helping to contribute to long-lasting positive effects for the local marine environment. Wildflower coastal meadows will be created using a carefully selected diversity of plant species high yielding in pollen, nectar and seeds, providing an enhanced habitat for pollinators and invertebrates and offering foraging up the food chain for birds and bats.
Elgol Fund for Nature is working with Fauna & Flora to support Edinburgh Shoreline.
