The following themes outline the six areas of work that were the focus of our 2024–2025 grants programme. To view the up-to-date themes for our current programme of work, please follow this link.
Terrestrial Ecosystems
This category covers terrestrial habitat, landscape or ecosystem level conservation projects. Such projects could include those related to terrestrial habitat restoration and landscape scale conservation efforts, refuge and reserve creation, preventing deforestation or other terrestrial habitat conservation projects.
We do not typically fund purchases of land or property.

Marine & Coastal Ecosystems
This category includes support for work on marine and coastal habitats or ecosystems.
These projects can be related to fisheries and aquaculture, coastal lands and estuaries, marine protected areas (MPAs), marine pollution, marine habitat restoration, and other marine habitat conservation projects.
Freshwater Ecosystems
This category covers all projects relating to freshwater habitats or ecosystems.
This includes work related to lakes, rivers, canals, wetlands and other inland water systems protection or restoration, issues of groundwater contamination and water conservation, and other freshwater habitat conservation projects.

Toxics & Pollution
This category includes projects related to all the main types of toxics and pollutants affecting the environment and human health.
These types of toxics and pollutants may include hazardous waste, heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, radioactive wastes, persistent organic pollutants (POPs), household chemicals, other industrial pollutants, and light and noise pollution.
Species Preservation of Under-Represented Groups
This category is focused on projects specifically related to under-researched or under-resourced taxonomic groups, namely invertebrates, fungi and plants.
Such projects may involve research and monitoring which leads to, or informs, practical real time conservation impact.

Food & Agriculture
This category covers projects related to improving the sustainability of food and agricultural systems.
This includes work on sustainable farming practices, research into the genetic diversity of agriculture, soil conservation and other projects relating to sustainable food and agriculture systems.
